The Changing Places accessible changeroom at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre (AVLC) has been fitted with a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) system. We've provided some FAQs below to answer some questions that you may have about this.

What are Changing Places facilities?

Changing Places are larger than standard accessible toilets. They provide people with disability who have high-support needs (and their carers), access to suitable, safe, and private bathroom facilities.

Changing Places enable many people with high-support needs to enjoy day-to-day activities that many of us take for granted, such as going to work, school or university, playing in the park, or attending cultural, sporting or social and family events.

What is a Master Locksmiths Access Key?

The Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) system is a Master Locksmiths Association of Australia initiative that allows people with disability access to dedicated public facilities.

Changing Places facilities at both Ascot Vale Leisure Centre and Keilor East Leisure Centre both have an MLAK system, requiring a MLAK to access the facilitiy.

Why do we have a MLAK?

The MLAK program was developed to help increase the availability of accessible, clean and functioning public facilities for the people that don't always have the luxury of using standard facilties.

Where are the Changing Places facilities in Moonee Valley?

To access the Changing Places facilities in Moonee Valley, you do not need to pay for entry to our Leisure Centres.
  • Ascot Vale Leisure Centre: through the main entry past reception, turn left, walk down the hallway for 40m and the Changing Places facilitiy is on the right-hand side.
  • Keilor East Leisure Centre: located on the aquatic pool deck. As you enter the aquatic area, turn left. You will find the Changing Places space on the left-hand side near our other accessible change rooms.
At Keilor East Leisure Centre, please speak to the Reception staff upon entry in order to access the Aquatic pool deck in order to access the Changing Places facility.

Why has access changed?

Following a positive awareness campaign at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre and Keilor East Leisure Centre, it has been determined that in order to provide the best possible user experience to people requiring Changing Places facilities, a MLAK would require installation to meet the standards MOVE Moonee Valley and Moonee Valley City Council desires.

Who is eligible for a MLAK?

Eligibility is restricted to people who have a disability or have written authority from one of the following:
  • a doctor
  • a disability organisation
  • community health centre
  • the owner or management of a building with a MLAK accessible toilet on site

How can I get a MLAK to access a Changing Places facility?

If you meet the eligibility criteria, please visit https://masterlocksmiths.com.au/mlak and fill out the online order form, or download a PDF order form you can print and complete.

I forgot my key, what do I do?

MOVE Leisure Centre staff do not have a MLAK to provide access for the community to use a Changing Places facility. Please ensure that you have your MLAK with you when attending Ascot Vale Leisure Centre or Keilor East Leisure Centre.

Are Companion Card holders entitled to a MLAK?

Yes, Companion Card holders are entitled to one free MLAK through a partnership with the Victorian Government. You can view the details via the Master Locksmiths website (link above).
